Pattern of a typical evening meeting

Rhododendron Westonbirt

Winter meetings take place on alternate Wednesday evenings between October and the beginning of April. They are held at the Caversham Primary School Hall, Hemdean Road, Caversham, Reading RG4 7RA. The hall is open from 7.0. p.m. and meetings commence at 7.30 p.m. See also Winter Programme, 2009-2010 and How to Find Us

Car parking is available in the school playground. Access is either through the main school gates in Hemdean Road or via the unmade Victoria Road, which is a turning off Hemdean Road.

A raffle is held at every meeting (except the AGM with plant sale) in aid of Association funds. Raffle tickets can be purchased before the formal start of the meeting at 7.30 p.m. Gifts of raffle prizes are always welcome. These are normally of a horticultural nature but any acceptable gift is gladly received.

Members are invited to bring specimen plants and other items of interest to show to fellow members for identification, advice or because they are unusual or exciting specimens.

The main part of the evening takes the form of a talk by an expert on some topic of gardening or horticultural interest, followed by the opportunity to ask questions. We continue to be successful in attracting a succession of high quality speakers.

Following the talk, the raffle is drawn and refreshments are served. Tea or coffee with biscuit can be purchased at a nominal charge.

It is possible to borrow gardening magazines before the start of the meeting or after the raffle has been drawn.

Meetings (apart from the Christmas Social) invariably finish by 9.30 p.m.

Guests are welcome at a charge of £2 per meeting. This charge is deducted from the membership fee if the guest decides to become a member during the same subscription year. If you wish to find out more about membership, or to join us, please go to 'Membership'.
